Joana Vasconcelos is presenting her exhibition Transfiguration at Museo Picasso Málaga from May 29 to September 27, 2026.
The show brings together sculptures and installations created from the late 1990s to the present day, highlighting ‘transfiguration’ – understood as the ability to transform objects and symbols into visual and spatial experiences – as the core of the artist’s work.
Structured around this concept, the exhibition explores the dialogue between Portuguese traditions and contemporary art, transforming everyday materials – textiles, ceramics and tiles – into pieces that celebrate cultural heritage and collective identity from a critical perspective. In Vasconcelos’s works, objects linked to the domestic, industrial or folk spheres do not lose their cultural memory but shift their meaning by appearing in new forms and contexts.
