LUZIA SIMONS | LA8 MUSEUM: GROUP EXHIBITION

20 September 2026

Luzia Simons is exhibiting in Vanitas, a group exhibition at the LA8 Museum of 19th-Century Art and Technology in Baden-Baden, open March 28 through September 20, 2026.

The exhibition explores a theme by contemporary artists that has accompanied humanity since the earliest civilizations: transience. The experiences of life, decay, and death are among the fundamental universal themes of human existence, accompanying us from birth to death. This theme is linked to the Bible: Adam and Eve become mortal because they tasted the forbidden fruit, and thus all their descendants are also subject to this fate. The Book of Job, part of the wisdom literature of the Old Testament, contains the verse: "Man, who is born of woman, is of few days… like a flower he springs up and fades away; like a fleeting shadow he does not endure." Vanitas means transience, and transience means transformation, constant change.
