For many years now, the Galerie La Patinoire Royale Bach strives to promote the modern and contemporary Belgian art scene, through vast historical exhibitions, as through group-shows (Sculpting Belgium, Painting Belgium, Belgian Women) as well as individuals exhibitions of Belgian artists (Koen Van Mechelen, the artist trio LAb[au], Jan Dries, Antonia Lambelé, Francis Dusépulchre, etc).
With YOUNG BELGIUM, the gallery wishes to show an emerging Belgian scene, of artists less than forty years old, born or settled permanently in Belgium, supported by a certain visibility, and constituting together a possible base of international Belgian artists of tomorrow.
The gallery intends to give a voice to these young artists on an annual basis, in the purpose of harvesting talents in the years to come, through group exhibitions, structured in individual spaces in the vast premises of Galerie La Patinoire Royale Bach, located in the heart of Brussels.
Placing Galerie La Patinoire Royale Bach at the service of these young artists, means supporting the young generation, in a thematic selection, annual and by definite opus.
For its first edition, YOUNG BELGIUM has selected a range of six artists around the theme of l’Ineffable.
Faithful to its tropism towards Belgian art, the Galerie La Patinoire Royale Bach wishes to promote the young emerging Belgian scene, artists under 40 years old, born or settled permanently in Belgium, credited with a certain visibility, and constituting the Belgian talents of tomorrow.
Through their personal practices, these artists have in common a questioning, conscious or unconscious, around the inexpressible, not so much what is inexpressible, of which there would be nothing to say, but on the contrary what is «ineffable», that is to say the inexpressible because there is on it infinitely, interminably to be said: such as the unfathomable mystery of God, such as the astonishment in front of Beauty, the greatness of the World and of Nature, or such as the inexhaustible spring of Love.
This exhibition of young artists, with its promises included in the ineffable, carries within it the hope of a vast future, starting from the unspeakable negativity of the Covid period towards the positivity of a «world after» that could only be better... ineffable.
Through very different forms, often linked to a certain restraint, silence, erasure, blurring, entanglement or translation, the artists try to tell in depth what the world, what life is, is in their components as enchanting as they are horrifying.
Our society is going through multiple oppositions and polarizations, bringing changes and disruptions. It is difficult not to feel it. But how can we express these feelings? How can we account for this sometimes disturbing, but also exciting bubbling? What to do with this violence that is imposed on us, in all forms, sometimes the most devious? How can we resist the stagnation linked to health, social, political and economic crises? How can we express hope, generosity, resilience and compassion?
The artists presented here, each in their own way, try to shed a serene, discreet, silent light on these states of the ineffable, in the intimacy of their respective practices.
