Works from Carmen Winant's Togethering (2020) series are held in the permanent collection at the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles and were exhibited in the exhibition Long Story Short January 15 through April 28, 2024.
For her Togethering series, artist Carmen Winant sourced images from books, manuals, and other printed materials dating to the 1960s and 1970s that feature physical closeness—hugging, holding, healing, greeting—mostly among women. From these images, Winant creates collages that invite the viewer to imagine her own act of “togethering” in searching for, gathering, and reconfiguring visual representations of human connection through touch.
