THOMAS DEVAUX | ART ABSOLUMENT: PRESS

2 July 2024

In Art Absolument magazine, Domitille d’Orgeval writes on Thomas Devaux.

In its majestic nave, Galerie La Patinoire Royale Bach hosts an exhibition by Thomas Devaux, entitled Cet obscur objet du désir. Under the auspices of Luis Bunnuel, three emblematic series of Devaux's work are brought together: "The Shoppers", "Rayons" and "Dichroics", through which he pursues a ten-year research project on the themes of consumerism, the sacred and the profane.

Behind the shimmering, seductive surfaces of his works, whose particularly meticulous, precious finish gives them a status bordering on the iconic, Thomas Devaux invites us to take a critical look at our behavior and our society, which establishes consumerism as the sole purveyor of happiness. “This obscure object of desire," says Florian Gaité, "appears as a plastic fable through which the public can become aware of its own consumption.”
