THOMAS DEVAUX | LE SOIR: PRESS

In Le Soir, Jean-Marie Wynants writes on Thomas Devaux's exhibition Cet Obscur Objet du Désir. 

 

With its immense space and high roof, La Patinoire Royale always gives visitors the impression of entering a kind of sacred place. This is more than ever the case with the current exhibition devoted to Thomas Devaux.

 

On an entire wall, small-scale works stand side by side with monumental ones. All have the same theme: the world of unbridled consumerism in which we live. We discover this, in a particularly agitated way, in a film produced on the occasion of Black Friday and projected on a large-format wall. But even if we can make out the silhouettes of consumers running in all directions, Thomas Devaux's work is in no way documentary. On the contrary, he evokes the theme through the materials he uses (mirror, pigment print, gold leaf, etc.) and his unique way of displaying.
