CARLOS CRUZ-DIEZ | CENTRE POMPIDOU METZ: GROUP EXHIBITION

28 February 2018 - 22 July 2019

Carlos Cruz-Diez was included in the group exhibition L'Aventure de la couleur. Œuvres phares du Centre Pompidou, curated by Emma Levigne, at the Centre Pompidou Metz. The artist created a site specific installation of his Chromatic Environment in the pavilion outside.

From the very beginning of the Centre Pompidou in 1977, color, used as a code, has been at the heart of Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers' architectural project. These are the same pure colors that open the polychrome ball in the exhibition L'Aventure de la couleur. Œuvres phares du Centre Pompidou, devoted to the persistence of reflections on color in the history of modern and contemporary art, from Henri Matisse to François Morellet.

Following on from Musicircus, this presentation of some forty masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou's collection offers a thematic exploration of color, sometimes apprehended as a powerful vector of emotions and sensations, sometimes as an infinite support for reflections on the materiality and spirituality of painting. Unveiling a number of physical and ultra-sensitive experiences, the tour invites visitors to gradually become aware of the incarnation of color, through dialogues rich in meaning.
