Arina Antonova is a visual artist born in Sevastopol, Crimea-Ukraine, and currently based between Spain and Switzerland. Antonova's work centers around sculptural ceramic objects such as vessels and body sculptures. Her studio practice focuses on researching natural materials, color study, and experimentation with both traditional and contemporary production techniques.
Antonova studied art history in St. Petersburg and Hamburg with a particular emphasis on archaeology and sculpture. After moving to Spain, Antonova discovered clay as the material that would become the foundation of her work for the last eight years. In 2016, she opened her first studio in Palma de Mallorca and has since participated in numerous international exhibitions showcasing her ceramic objects in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and Switzerland.
Through her art, Antonova seeks to shed light on the often-overlooked contributions of women to the ceramic tradition and challenges the dominant male presence in the field. Her sculptures explore themes such as body, identity, femininity, and the cultural construction of gender and beauty standards, offering a thought-provoking commentary on these critical issues. In addition to these themes, her work also explores the emotional and psychological aspects of our relationship with food, aiming to foster a deeper understanding of the intricate connections between art, food, and the human experience.
