JAN DRIES Belgium, 1925-2014
Overview
Belgian artist Jan Dries, born in 1925 in Mol and deceased in 2014, lived and worked in Antwerp (BE) and Italy.
His creations with perfect geometry invite meditative contemplation. The choice of immaculate and perfectly polished white marble contributes to this impression of absolute serenity; of sacred. Dries manages through his works to reach the perilous balance that combines emotion and reason.
In 1974, his work was shown during Contemporary Belgian Art at the Reims Museum (FR). In 1984, BOZAR, a cultural venue in Brussels, arranged a retrospective exhibition in his honour. In 2016, he was made an honorary citizen posthumously in Zoersel (a municipality in the province of Antwerp). His work is now part of many collections, such as the Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Belgium, the Belfius Bank and the Axel & May Vervoordt Foundation.
