CASPER BRINDLE Canada, b. 1968
Overview
"I’m inspired by the infinite variety of color in nature, especially how different densities of atmosphere, diffuse light into a vast spectrum of colors and moods. As I’ve evolved as an artist, painting has become more instinctual for me and they often seem to paint themselves."
Born in Toronto in 1968, Casper Brindle lives and works in Los Angeles.
Casper Brindle is a contemporary disciple of the Light and Space generation of the 1960s and 1970s. Brindle is interested in sensory experiences triggered by colour and light, from which he explores expressive possibilities. His vast paintings move and transform as the spectator passes in front of them, forcing him to pause and examine the spaces of the gaze. Brindle’s paintings do not only delight the senses; they evoke deeper emotions for the viewer. Using tools and techniques adopted in Southern California automotive culture, Brindle applies fine layers of paint to the airbrush to create atmospheric gradations of subtle depth.
In 2015, he was exhibited at Villa Di Donato in Naples and, in 2014, at the Lancaster Museum of Art and History. His work is part of the permanent collection of Morningside University, USA and the Frederick R. Weisman Museum.
